Neurophysiological signatures of Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal lobar degeneration: pathology versus phenotype Saber Sami; Brain, August 2018
The authors identify characteristic neurophysiological signatures of five neurodegenerative diseases, including two variants of Alzheimer’s disease and three forms of frontotemporal lobar degeneration. Disorders that share a common underlying pathology have a similar spectral signature of altered connectivity, regardless of phenotype.

D-dimer levels predict long-term risk of arterial and venous events, CVD mortality, and non-CVD noncancer mortality, independently of other risk factors. D-dimer is also a significant predictor of cancer incidence and mortality. These results support an association of D-dimer with fatal events across multiple diseases and demonstrate that this link extends beyond 10 years' follow-up.
Trends in outpatient antibiotic use and prescribing practice among US older adults, 2011-15: observational study Scott W Olesen;BMJ 2018; July 2018
Among US Medicare beneficiaries, overall antibiotic use and potentially inappropriate use in 2011-15 remained steady or fell modestly, but individual drugs had divergent changes in use. Trends in drug use across indications were stronger than trends in use for individual indications, suggesting that guidelines and concerns about antibiotic resistance were not major drivers of change in antibiotic use.
